Charleston, SC Farmers Markets

Saturday farmers market in Marion Square, in downtown Charleston, SC.

The Saturday market in Marion Square is the best-known of Charleston’s farmers markets, but there are nearly two dozen other markets scattered throughout the city’s outlying communities and islands.

Some are year-round, others are seasonal, and there are also a handful of holiday markets in December.

Farmers markets are a great place to get local-grown produce from the many farms located on the islands around Charleston, plus fresh meats and seafood, cheeses, baked goods and jams, pickles and other foods or pre-made meals, often themselves made from local ingredients. Arrive early to get the best produce.

Most markets have restrictions on sales of produce grown outside the area, but you can generally also expect to find some things grown outside of South Carolina. Ask the vendors where their produce was grown if you want to be sure of buying locally.

Most markets also have numerous vendors selling art and craft items, many of them locally-made. Several of the larger markets offer one or several food trucks, sometimes on a rotating basis, and weekly live music and/or activities for children.
