Charleston in April is about as perfect as the city gets, with typically excellent weather, a wide variety of fun spring events, and the beautiful blooms of Charleston’s parks and gardens adding to its already manifold charms.
Big April events in Charleston include the annual Cooper River Bridge Run, which brings tens of thousands of visitors to the city over the race weekend. Another sporting event bringing a lot of people into the Charleston area is the Volvo Car Open women’s tennis tournament.
Festivals of music, food and the arts this month include the three-day Flowertown Festival in nearby Summerville, the Lowcountry Strawberry Festival at Boone Hall Plantation, the Lowcountry Cajun Festival and the annual Blessing of the Fleet and Seafood Festival over at Mount Pleasant.
April brings the reopening of the well-known farmers market in downtown Marion Square, a popular fixture every Saturday morning from spring through fall. Look out too for special Easter events at nearby plantations and other attractions over the holiday weekend.
