January is typically a quieter month in Charleston, characterized by a lull in tourism and a decrease in major events — which provides an excellent opportunity for visitors to enjoy the city’s historic charm without the crowds.
This month’s main event is the annual Lowcountry Oyster Festival, billed as the largest oyster festival in the world. January being one of the best times of year to enjoy the region’s oyster harvest, there are other oyster-related events on during the month if you can’t make it for this event.
Other food events in January include Charleston’s winter Restaurant Week and the Taste of Folly at Folly Beach.
