Kayaking is one of the best ways to get an up-close look at the best the lowcountry has to offer. Local guide companies offer a variety of kayaking tours, which are the safest and easiest way to participate in this activity if you lack kayaking experience or knowledge of the local area.
Kayaking trips out of Folly Beach can range from a peaceful and secluded excursion among the birds and wildlife of the marsh, to sightseeing paddles along the Folly River (including sunrise, sunset and moonlit options), or a more adventurous ocean paddle.
When choosing a tour, please note that Folly River is not the same as Folly Creek. The Folly River is the waterway in the immediate rear of Folly Island. It is comparatively busy, with views over the developed island on one side.
Folly Creek, on the other hand, winds up through the interior of the marsh, offering a quieter and more scenery- and wildlife-oriented tour. If you particularly want to see one or the other, check with the tour company before you book as routes may vary.
