Myrtle Beach In January

The winter months of January and February are Myrtle Beach’s real off season, when the town is inhabited mostly by locals and by people traveling south for the winter. January weather is highly variable, with warm, sunny days interspersed with cold and wind.

Although the city is by no means deserted, crowds are much smaller than in spring, summer and fall, and hotel and condo rates are correspondingly lower too, offering more options for where to stay at any particular price point.

In terms of things to do, Myrtle Beach is a year-round destination. Although a few weather-sensitive attractions do close down over the winter period, most of the main activities are open for business, and you can expect a full range of attractions, shows, restaurants and shopping at any time of the year.

January events in Myrtle Beach include the Shag Dancing preliminaries, winter running events, a boat expo, and food events including the South Carolina Restaurant Week, which offers discounted dining at many of the best local restaurants.
