Greyhound and its regional affiliate Southeastern Stages operate bus services to Charleston, which can be an economical, though variably convenient, way of getting to and from the city.
Charleston’s bus station is located a few miles north of the downtown Historic District, at 4565 Gaynor Avenue, Charleston, SC 29405. Connecting travel to the downtown Historic District and other area destinations is available by public transit and taxi/ride-share services.

Fares available through Greyhound vary somewhat in price depending on the day and time of travel and when you make your purchase. Mid-week travel (usually Monday through Thursday) usually offers a few dollars off the each-way fare, with more expensive fares for Friday and weekend travel.

Two direct buses daily depart Charleston for Columbia, SC, with either morning or early evening departures available. In the Columbia to Charleston direction there are also two direct buses daily, with departures available in the afternoon and at night.
Travel time is around 2.5 hours. All trips are with Greyhound affiliate Southeastern Stages. Economy fares start from around $20 each way ($40 round trip).
Services between Savannah and Charleston have been impacted by schedule changes consequent upon the coronavirus pandemic. Currently, service is only available in the Charleston to Savannah direction. The trip is a long one, taking 8 hours and including a 3 hour connection in Columbia, SC. Economy fares start at around $21-$25 each way.
Two bus routes daily allow travel from Atlanta to Charleston, with departures in the morning and mid afternoon. One trip is direct, and the other requires a connection in Columbia, SC. Travel time is around 9-10 hours.
In the Charleston to Atlanta direction, there are also two trips per day, one direct and the other connecting in Columbia, SC. Departures are available mid morning and early evening. Travel time is 7 hours on the direct route, and 10 hours on the connecting route. Economy fares are around $40-$55 each way.
Due to schedule changes associated with the coronavirus pandemic, it is not presently very convenient to travel between Miami and Charleston by bus. Journey length is 20-30 hours, requiring 1-3 connections, depending on the route selected.
Three daily departures are available in the Charleston to Miami direction daily and two from Miami to Charleston, with economy fares starting at around $90 each way.
The Charleston-Miami bus route as above also serves Orlando. Leaving Charleston at 2:30pm, the single daily bus arrives in Orlando at 11:10pm, for a total travel time of almost 9 hours, including one transfer.
Please note, however, that the route in the Orlando-Charleston direction is not a daily service, and is available on only a few days per week. The single evening departure from Orlando (at 7:15pm) travels overnight, with one transfer, arriving in Charleston at 8:40am.

Two afternoon buses leave Charleston for Jacksonville daily, both requiring one transfer. Please note that one of the trips takes substantially longer than the other, over nine hours rather than five.
A single daily trip is available in the Jacksonville-Charleston direction, leaving in the very early hours of the morning and arriving in Charleston a little over 5 hours later. The standard fare is $70-$75 each way, or $35-$40 each way with advance reservations.
Afternoon and night departures from Charleston to Washington, DC are available by bus, with very early morning and evening departures available in the opposite direction. Total travel time depends on the route chosen, but is in the 15-20 hours range, with multiple transfers required. Afternoon and nighttime departures from Charleston to Boston are available daily; from Boston to Charleston departures are in the late morning to late afternoon. Journey time is around 25-30 hours depending on the trip selected, with each requiring at least three transfers. Afternoon and night departures from both Charleston to New York and New York to Charleston are available daily. Travel time is 20-24hrs, with 2-4 transfers depending on the journey chosen. The standard fare is around $150 each way, or around $80-$90 each way with advance reservations.
Afternoon and night-time buses leaves Charleston for Nashville daily, with travel time of 12-15 hours and a transfer mid-way. From Nashville to Charleston there is a wider choice of journeys, with departures from early morning through late evening. Travel time is 13-19 hours depending on the route selected, and you will usually need to make two transfers.
