Capers Island Tours

Boneyard beach on the South Carolina coast.

Capers Island State Heritage Preserve is a beautiful, undeveloped barrier island within easy reach of Charleston and the sea islands. The island, located a few miles north of Isle of Palms, is only accessible by boat or kayak.

If you want to visit Capers Island’s boneyard beach and undisturbed nature, but don’t have much boating or kayaking experience, there are several local guide companies offering tours and transportation to the island.

The easiest way to get to the island is to take one of the regular public boat tours that run to Capers from Isle of Palms; private boat tours are also available if you prefer a small-group experience.

For the more adventurous, guided kayak excursions to Capers Island are available, with most offering some time on the island to explore. These trips do require some physical stamina, and are not appropriate for complete beginners, but if you’ve kayaked before this is a unique and exciting way to see one of South Carolina’s most pristine and scenic barrier islands.
